Piazza del Plebiscito

Maurizio Lampis, after 7 months of work, has completed his fifth National Monument. Following the 24 Sardinian monuments, the Trevi Fountain, St. Mark’s Square, and Trani Cathedral, it is now Campania’s turn—with the iconic Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples.

Maurizio shares:
“My goal is to recreate Italy in miniature, and this year I chose to represent one of Naples’ most iconic symbols: Piazza del Plebiscito.

The micro-minifigure scale project required no less than 85,000 LEGO bricks, without the use of any dedicated software—only photographic references.

I relied on as many pictures as I could find online, along with help from friends from Campania, in order to capture as many details as possible.

In the square, you can admire two beautiful equestrian statues representing Charles III of Bourbon and his son Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies, the two colonnades with 11 statues on the rooftops, the three domes, and even the buildings on Via Gennaro Serra, Via Egiziaca a Pizzofalcone, and Piazzetta Salazar, which are placed to the sides and at the back of the diorama. The model also includes three motors for lighting.

My dream is to exhibit this creation in its city of origin, just as I’ve done with all my previous works.
And this year, I decided to go big: I also recreated, in mosaic form, the ultimate symbol of football—Diego Armando Maradona.
This is my special tribute to a fantastic city called Naples”.
